About Thai
Massage, Traditional Thai Massage, Thai Yoga Therapy, Nuad Boran...
many names, one ancient system. There are many great resources
available, but in a most brief way I can say that:
Thai Yoga
Massage is an ancient system rooted in northern India, which was
revived in Thailand before finding it's way to the United
States. Founded by Father Jivaka Kumar Bhaccha- who was a
physician to the Maghada king Bimbisara more than 2,500 years ago,
around the time that the Buddha was alive. There are basically two
versions of Thai Massage- Southern style, and Northern style.
The Northern style tends to be longer in duration, perhaps softer in
form, and involves more yoga-like stretching. The system I
follow tends to be along the lines of Northern-style- in the lineage
of my teacher
Saul David Raye as handed down to him from Asokonanda.
There is a strong connection to Yoga based movements and Ayurveda in
these therapeutic sessions which last a minimum of two hours.

"I have had
many types of massage before but was not familiar with Thai
Massage until I was introduced to it by Lise Waugh. I have
never had a more healing massage in my life. Weeks later I can
still feel the healing effects from the massage. From a car
accident, over twenty years ago, I have had a chronic
tightness in my left shoulder and neck. Since my Thai massage
it has never felt better. This massage is like nothing you
have ever experienced before, but it by far the best massage I
have ever had. I highly recommend Lise's Thai massage." - Mary Benarth

Thai Yoga Therapy Massage
A dynamic therapy using a method of
compassionate touch that promotes flexibility, energy balance, deep
relaxation, and promotes the union of mind, body, and breath.
Thai Yoga Therapy incorporates
principles of Ayurveda, Buddhist attention to centeredness,
alignment and dynamic stretching of Hatha Yoga, and manipulation of
the sen (Thai energy line’s). The flow of Thai Massage is like that
of a dance between giver and receiver- to the degree that some would
call this “assisted” Yoga- as if Yoga is being done to the receiver.
As the receiver relaxes, and moves effortlessly with the giver, the
beauty and harmony of the experience becomes more healing and more
beneficial.
